Change
In the fall of 2007 I attended Louisville
to watch the market lamb show, attend the Market mama sale and the
Willoughby sale. I was amazed at the enthusiasm in the club lamb
business. With very little interest in breeding sheep, I realized
that I must get involved in the club lamb business if I was going
to survive. I soon saw that I did not have the high wide hip, dock
structure or lower leg to compete. I realized after watching the
show that I had to bring in a Hamp buck if I was going to quickly
improve. It was at that sale that I came in contact with Vince McGolden.
I contacted Vince and said I wanted a chance at the thickest buck
with the squarest hip he could produce. I also asked Vince if he
had a registered Hamp. Although that is a little old fashion these
days, I still like registration papers and what they mean. In March,
of 2008, I met Vince in Richmond brought home my first Hamp buck-
Cummins. Named because a Cummins is one of the most outstanding
Diesel's ever made. I plan to cross Cummins on my Suffolks and keep
them registered in the Percentage book with Suffolk. Time will tell
if this remains a priority. At this moment, I am very pleased with
the first crop of lambs
